In late October 2026, Ukrainian advocacy organizations KharkivPride and KyivPride jointly announced that a specialized sociological research study probing the origins and dissemination of anti-LGBTQ+ disinformation across Ukraine will be officially unveiled in Kyiv on October 30. The investigation examines the structural mechanics behind hostile narratives directed at sexual and gender minorities during wartime, directly addressing whether state actors from the Russian Federation are actively manufacturing and weaponizing domestic discord to fragment Ukrainian societal cohesion.
According to the non-governmental organization Sphere (ГО «ХЖО Сфера»), which conducted the initiative, the research was directed by Hanna Hrytsenko, a prominent Ukrainian sociologist and specialist in far-right movements. During the analytical phase, researchers conducted a comprehensive empirical review of more than 1,000 public entries published by Ukrainian reactionary and conservative online influencers, supplemented by extensive community surveys and qualitative interviews with subject-matter experts to map how domestic disinformation operates in practice.
The public presentation and roundtable symposium are scheduled to take place on Friday, October 30, at 18:00 at the LGBTQ+ Veterans Hub, situated at 43 Kyrylivska Street in Kyiv. Sociologists, human rights advocates, and community members will convene to examine the specific manipulative narratives deployed against minorities, identify key distribution networks, and formulate effective civil society counter-strategies. The research project and venue presentation were organized by NGO Sphere with institutional grant support from the European Union and the French Development Agency (AFD).
From a geopolitical and civil society perspective, the project underscores how anti-minority propaganda serves as a critical vector for cognitive warfare during ongoing armed conflict. By deploying objective academic research to expose the domestic amplification of hostile tropes, Ukrainian civic organizations demonstrate remarkable resilience against outside psychological manipulation. Guarding the dignity of frontline service personnel alongside vulnerable civilian communities strengthens Ukraine's democratic commitments as it continues to advance European integration amidst national crisis.
