On October 22, 2026, student advocacy organization UPLB Babaylan raised an expansive rainbow flag around the iconic Oblation statue at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), marking the official commencement of the campus's Pride Month celebrations. Anchored by the central theme "Bahagi ng Bahaghari: UPLB Pride 2026!" ("Part of the Rainbow"), the visual installation highlights institutional inclusivity while celebrating the enduring presence and creativity of the university's LGBTQIA+ community.

According to campus publication The Staple, the decorative installation represents both artistic expression and the student collective's historical advocacy within the university since the establishment of UP Pride in 2008. Over nearly two decades, student leaders have utilized the symbol of the Oblation—a national collegiate emblem of selfless service—to call for comprehensive anti-discrimination policies, gender sensitivity in academic spaces, and statutory safeguards for marginalized students.

The flag ceremony forms part of a multi-week series of campus engagements focused on community wellbeing and critical dialogue. Prior to the installation, organizers operated free contraceptive and sexual wellness distribution booths on October 14 and 15, followed by an educational forum titled "Queer Talks" on October 21. Festivities culminated on the evening of October 22 with an open-air cultural night at the Humanities Steps, featuring student performances and literary readings.

From an institutional perspective, the sustained activism at UPLB demonstrates the pivotal role of collegiate environments in advancing progressive civil discourse across Southeast Asia. In a predominantly Catholic country where national anti-discrimination legislation continues to face legislative delays, academic spaces serve as vital incubators for human rights advocacy and reproductive health awareness, showcasing how student-led initiatives foster civic resilience and social equity.
