Four European Nations Led by Openly LGBT Leaders, the Only Continent Gathering LGBT Heads of State and Government

According to newly released global statistics on political leaders, four European countries are currently headed by openly LGBT leaders, spanning different political systems and geographic regions and making Europe the only continent in the world today with openly LGBT heads of state or government; the four are Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, in office since 2023 as the EU's first openly gay head of state; Andorran head of government Xavier Espot Zamora, in office since 2019, who came out while in office; Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, who in 2026 became the country's first gay prime minister; and Serbian leader Ana Brnabić, prime minister from 2017 to 2024 and now acting president — vividly demonstrating a landmark advance in diversity, inclusion, and equal representation at the top of European politics.
